How to mount gas struts: our step-by-step plan
It’s finally time to start mounting your gas springs. Follow the step-by-step plan below for guaranteed success! With this step-by-step plan, we naturally assume that you already have the necessary materials like gas struts, mounting parts and screws at home.
Step 1: Preparations before installing
Make sure you are well prepared. therefore make sure in advance that there is sufficient play in the cylinder connections. This prevents rigid mounting. Another preparatory tip we give you: do not mount gas struts alone. Have someone hold the valve or cover open for you when you install the gas struts. This makes mounting the gas struts a whole lot easier!
Step 2: Marking the screw points
Mark the calculated inch points on your application. You can get your measuring points from the mounting drawing created by the calculation tool. Be sure to mark the screw points to the exact measurements given by the calculator! If you do not mark the screw points to the exact dimensions, the gas spring may not fit in the end.
Step 3: Installing the gas struts
Have you applied the markings correctly on your application? Then it’s time to get started. Please note that gas springs must always be mounted in the extended position. Screw the mounting parts of the gas spring to the marked markings. We recommend using stainless steel self-tapping screws to install each mounting part.
Once the mounting parts are screwed on, all you need to do is snap the gas spring itself into place. You can do this by clicking the extended gas spring onto the mounting parts. See the image above for the correct position. It is extremely important that you mount the gas spring with the narrow end of the rod lower than the gas filled piston. Once you have done this, your gas spring is ready to use!
Do you want to replace an old gas strut? Then make sure to replace the gas springs one by one. It is also a must that the gas struts are mounted in the same position as the original gas struts.
