Step 2: Order the right gas strut

Now that you know the correct measurements for your application, you can order the right gas strut for your application. Moreover, our configurator tool can help you find the right material and mounting parts. Of course this tool will also appear after calculating the measurements in step 1.

Step 3: Preparations

Now that you have got your gas strut, you can start installing the gas strut on your application. Before you mark the screw points on your application, make sure you understand the following results of the calculator tool:

A [inch]

The A measurement is the distance from the hinge to the point of attachment of the gas strut on the cover in the lengthwise direction of the cover in inches.

B [inch]

The B measurement is the distance from the hinge to the point of attachment of the gas strut on the cover in the height direction of the cover in inches. If you use a bracket (see webshop) then the distance from the bottom of the cover to the attachment point of the gas strut is 20mm.

C [inch]

The C measurement is the horizontal distance between the hinge and the attachment point of the gas strut to the fixed world. Distance to the middle point of rotation of the mounting part.

D [inch]

The D measurement is the vertical distance between the hinge and the attachment point of the gas strut to the fixed world. Distance to the middle point of the screw eye, ball, or spindle.

Step 4: Marking the right points

Mark the calculated points shown as above on your application. You can retrieve your inch points from the assembly drawing made by the calculator tool. Make sure you mark the points on the exact measurements given by the calculator tool! If you don’t mark the screw points on the exact measurements, the gas strut may not fit in the end.

Step 5: Installing the gas strut

After marking the points on your application, it’s finally time to install your gas strut. Screw the mounting parts of the gas strut on the applied markings. Gas springs must always be installed in their extended state. The best way to do this is to have someone helping you so that one person can keep the application lid in position while the other person installs the gas spring.

Gasspringsshop recommends using stainless-steel self-tapping screws to attach each mounting part. After screwing the mounting parts on your application, all that’s left to do is snapping the gas strut itself into place. You can do this by opening the lid of your application and snapping the gas strut onto the mounting parts. It’s extremely important that you mount the gas strut with the narrow rod end lower than the gas-filled piston.
