Do you have a gas spring for your application? Or do you need to order one? In both cases you’re in the right place. Besides that, we tell you more about how to mount a gas spring. If you read these two things in this article, you’re ready to start. On to a smoothly operating gas spring!
Before mounting a gas spring use our gas spring calculator
Before you can mount a gas spring, it must first be equipped with the correct type of gas spring. It is not easy to determine the correct dimensions offhand. The type of gas spring depends on various factors. This involves the dimensions of the flap, hatch, or door to be supported, among others. But, do not worry: Gasspringsshop has incorporated these factors into a calculation tool. Therefore, you only need to enter a few important dimensions of the application, and the correct gas spring size will come out!
The mounting of a gas spring
There are a few important things for the mounting of a gas spring. When the gas spring is just taken out of the packaging, it is often the case that the gas spring is difficult to compress. This is because the seal is a bit stuck to the rod due to the duration of storage. We advise you to just mount the gas spring and apply some extra force to get through this. After this, the gas spring will become much smoother.
Always make sure that the rod points are downwards most of the time. This way the seal remains lubricated and the gas spring lasts longer. Always be careful with the rod (the chrome-colored part of the gas spring). If it gets damaged, the seal will quickly break and the gas will leak out of the gas spring. Then the gas spring will no longer work. It is best to leave the rod wrapped or to wrap it until after the assembly.
Finally, make sure that the attachments are screwed on tightly. If the attachments do not align properly for fastening, continue turning so that the rod rotates in the housing. Do not turn back, as then “the attachment will not make contact” with the rod or the housing, and there is a chance that the threads will break off.
How to use our calculator tool?
You can easily design your gas spring at Gasspringsshop. Our calculator guides you through this process, step by step. If you have a replacement gas spring or if you know the measurements exactly, you can use our configurator. The most important information in the calculation process is (please look at the image below for a visual explanation):
- Select the image that is closest to the gas spring application.
- Then fill in the specifications such as the length, width, height, and weight.
- Where do you want the gas spring positioned and at how many degrees?
- On what material should it be mounted?
